History, Mission & Goals

In January of 2008, a group of Chicago-based institutions attended a Higher Learning Commission Assessment workshop. Throughout the two-day conference, teams of participants from several different institutions articulated the realization that there is little assistance for assessment planning and implementation outside of the conference scene. The discussion evolved into action, and the result is an informal group of approximately 15 institutions that meet periodically in the city to share assessment best practices. Loyola University Chicago hosted the first CAAG meeting in April of 2008. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead, Continuities in Cultural Evolution.

Mission: The mission of the Chicago Area Assessment Group (CAAG) is to advance understanding of assessment and its impact on college and university planning and effectiveness.

Goal: To serve as a professional peer group that provides a forum for sharing good practices, soliciting feedback and creating an open dialogue for gathering information and thinking through ideas.
